The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimates on Thursday expressed discontent over sluggish progress of some projects under the local government department. The watchdog came up with this evaluation at its second meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Md Abdus Shaheed in chair.

The committee also asked the ministry concerned to submit the progress report on those projects by June 30. The committee expressed anger over the progress of the projects taken up by the Local Government Division, Public Health Engineering Department and Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA).

The committee also expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of the managing director of Dhaka WASA at the meeting. The committee recommended submitting the evaluation reports of different projects under Public Health Engineering Department within two months. The committee also suggested the Local Government Division to take necessary steps for setting up Dhaka WASA south and north units like the two city corporations in Dhaka to ensure the supply of fresh water for the densely populated city.

Committee members Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Ahsan Adelur Rahman and Wasika Aeysha attended the meeting.
Besides, secretaries of the concerned ministries and senior officials were also present in the meeting.
