In 2014, actor and television host Shahriar Nazim Joy wrote a letter to Sheikh Hasina, the then Prime Minister, requesting a plot of land in Purbachal. In this letter, Joy praised Sheikh Hasina, calling her "the most outstanding leader and exemplary mother of the subcontinent." Recently, an image of this letter surfaced on social media, leading to widespread criticism.
Joy responded to the criticism on his verified Facebook account, acknowledging the letter. He explained that although the letter had been shared many times before, it was being circulated again. He stated, "The letter has been circulated about 14 times, and this time my phone number has gone viral, causing me social harassment."
Joy admitted that the letter was a form of flattery and expressed regret, saying, "Yes, the letter was indeed a form of flattery, and I deserve to be shamed for that. But isn't this punishment too harsh? Let's support each other and correct our mistakes together."
The actor also mentioned that he has been targeted for asking controversial questions on his shows. Despite the backlash, Joy seemed to appreciate the increased attention his shows have gained as a result of the controversy.
The ongoing debate around the letter has drawn attention to Joy's public behavior, but he remains defiant, urging people to stop spreading hate and focus on correcting their own mistakes.
