Shakhawat Hossain Manik (40), district Correspondent of Daily Bortoman Din was injured in the miscreant attack in Munshiganj. Manik, who was injured in the incident, was first treated at Munshiganj Sadar Hospital with serious injuries. Later he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical. The attack took place in North Islampur area of the city around 9 pm on Monday. Eyewitnesses said that due to previous enmity, a gang of 20/25 people from Hatlakshmiganj of the city suddenly attacked at North Islampur intersection and created panic around 9 pm on Monday.
Later, on his way back, Shakhawat Hussain, the current district representative, sneaked inside Manik's business premises and beat him up. Additional police were immediately deployed as panic prevailed in the area.
Injured journalist Shakhawat Hossain Manik also claimed that his business was looted and beaten up in the attack.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Tarikuzzaman said that the police were sent as soon as the fight was reported. No case or complaint has been filed in the police station in this regard. If a case is filed in this regard, legal action will be taken.
