Journalists must follow ethics

Journalists must follow ethics and ethos of journalism in making news items on anyone. They must contact the persons concerned for their version. But Bangla daily the Banik Barta unfortunately did not follow that ethics. The newspaper is frequently running news items without talking to the persons against whom they are making news. They have recently made a gross mistake by putting someone’s picture mentioning the name of someone else.

The news item of the Banik Barta has obviously undermined the image of the journalists of the country. Journalists should always maintain ethics and ethos of journalism.

As a senior journalist of the country, I condemn this type of news about Sikder Group, which was founded by Zainul Haque Sikder, a person enjoying high esteem and social respect.

Zainul Haque Sikder was a valiant freedom fighter and one of the organisers of the Liberation War in 1971. He was also a leading industrialist and philanthropist.

Zainul Haque Sikder was one of those who made great contributions to the development and progress of Bangladesh. He established a large number of business ventures in the fields of education, health, housing and hospitality and employed about 20,000 people in the last seven decades.

I wish and hope that all the journalists of the country will go by the journalism ethics while publishing any news about any business venture, which is contributing to the economic development of the country.
