Journalist Nure Alam has filed a General Diary (GD) at Rupganj Police Station, accusing an anonymous individual of spreading false and defamatory content using a fake Facebook account.

The GD was lodged on Saturday night in person by Nure Alam, who is the Rupganj correspondent for The Daily Janakantha and The Daily Bangladesh Post. The complaint names the fake account titled “Rupganjer Durnitir Khobor” (Corruption News of Rupganj) as responsible for the smear campaign.

According to the GD, the fake account has been distorting photos taken from Nure Alam’s personal Facebook profile, Journalist Md Nuralam, and publishing offensive and misleading posts aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He alleges that these are deliberate attempts to humiliate and damage him socially and professionally.

Nure Alam stated he has made several unsuccessful efforts to identify the person behind the fake profile. The false information has caused him significant emotional distress and social harm.

He hopes that the GD will prompt law enforcement and cybercrime investigators to take swift action.

Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam confirmed receipt of the complaint and said it has been forwarded to the Cyber Tribunal for investigation.
