JnUTA gets new executive body

A 15-member executive committee of Jagannath University Teachers’ Association (JnUTA) has been elected for a one-year term with Prof Dr Nure Abdullah as the president and Prof Dr Shamima Begum as the general secretary. Physics department professor Dr Nure Alam got 318 votes while his opponent accounting and information system department professor Dr Sowkat Jahangir got 193 votes and Professor Milton Biswas only president candidate of Joy Bangla Teachers’ Society panel got 10 votes.

Microbiology department professor Dr. Shamima Begum bagged 285 votes while his opponent chemistry department professor Dr. Abul Kalam Md. Lutfur Rahman bagged 233 votes. Chief election commissioner Professor Dr Md Muniruzzaman announced the results of the polls on Tuesday evening which was held at the university central auditorium from 9:00am to 2:30pm.

Professor Dr. Md. Mohammad Abdul Baki was elected as vice-president, while Professor Dr Zahir Uddin Arif as treasurer, and Prof. Dr. Momin Uddin as joint-secretary. Dr. G.M Al Amin, Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Numan Mahfuj,  Muhammad Elias, Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Hossain, Md. Imran Hossain, Shahana Akhter, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Hossen, Dr. Prativa Rani Kormaker and Lutfunnahar were elected as executive members of the committee.

Two factions of pro-Awami League teachers’ group ‘Blue Panel’ and another newly formed Joy Bangla Teachers’ Society led by Milton Biswas contested in the elections while pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami teachers’ group ‘White Panel’ did not take part in the polls. A total of 521 out of 678 teachers cast their votes in the polls.
