JnU VC urges equal participation of men, women in mass media

The Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU) has urged to ensure equal participation of men and women in mass media, but not by excluding men. He also said that equal opportunities should be provided to both men and women based on skill and fairness, and only then can true equality be established.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Gender Equality and Fairness in Mass Media”, organised by Jagannath University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism on Tuesday. Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Alam, Chairman of the department, delivered the welcome speech at the opening of the programme. In the main segment of the programme, the “Gender Commitment Charter” was presented. Shipa Hafiza, a member of the Gender Charter Working Group and human rights activist, discussed gender equity in Bangladesh’s media from the perspective of civil society as a panelist.

Additionally, Dr. Giti Ara Nasreen, leader of the Gender Charter Working Group and Professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka, delivered a presentation on “The Importance of Gender in Journalism and Its Connection with the Gender Charter.” 

Teachers and students of the department took part in the seminar.
