JnU team to join Jean Pictet competition in Indonesia

A team of three students of Law Department of Jagannath University (JnU) has been selected as the first team from Bangladesh to take part in the prestigious Jean Pictet Competition-2020, which will be held from 7 to 14th March in Denpasar of Indonesia.

This team will represent Bangladesh as members of 'Team e088' in the competition. The members of the team are- Mahmuda Amir Eva, Md. Mohaimenul Islam and Evnat Bhuiyan. The team has been selected for the competition based on the assessment of an essay written on ‘The Art of War: The Origin of The First Principle of International Humanitarian Law’ and a written test on IHL as well as the academic profile of the team members. A total of 48 teams from different nations of the world are going to participate in this competition. Bangladesh for the first time in its history is going to walk in the land of Picteists.

The competition is organized in two editions every year- the Francophone and the Anglophone edition. The selected team from Bangladesh will compete in the Anglophone edition of the 34th Edition of the competition. Due to the team being one of the top assessed groups of the competition and being the first as well as the only team from the Bangladesh, the team is selected to be sponsored by the universality fund of the CCJP and the Swiss Red Cross. However, Barrister Ahmed Ehsanul Kabir, Assistant Professor of JnU Law Department is going to be one of the Anglophone Jury in this grand global competition. He is also the first person from Bangladesh invited as a judge for Jean Pictet 2020 who previously acted as a panel judge in the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
