The students of Jagannath University have organized a human chain demanding to announce the date of the examination as soon as possible. The human chain was held in front of the university cafeteria on Thursday morning.
Speakers at the human chain demanded immediate opening of the campus, announcement of examination dates, setting up of Covid vaccination booths for teachers and students on the university campus, reduction of tuition fees and allotment of student halls. Tanvir Ahmed, a student of Film and Television Department, Abdur Rahman, Alim Dewan, students of Finance Department, Fatema Meghla, a student of Psychology Science Department and Mrittika Sarkar, a student of History Department spoke on the occasion.
Alim Dewan said that the students have been frustrated due to the university being closed for more than a year and a half. The administration should create a logical roadmap for how the university can be opened. Now with their backs to the wall, there is no alternative to reopening the university and taking exams as soon as possible.
He further said that the administration should take the responsibility of ensuring hygiene and protection of teachers and students. If the administration takes the initiative, it can launch Covid Ticker Booth on campus for teachers, students, officials and employees.
Psychology student Fatema Meghla said that the university administration have not been cooperative about the allocation of student halls for a long time. Even after so many days of inauguration, the inability to fix the allocation and policy of the hall has brought nothing but more suffering.
“We want quick hall policies and allocations, so that the students can start up as soon as the university opens,” she said.
At the same time, they protested against the increase in the admission test fees of 20 universities.
