Jagannath University (JnU) has officially received the remaining 11.40 acres of land for its much-awaited second campus in Keraniganj. With this, the university now holds full possession of the entire 200 acres allocated for the project.
The formal handover took place yesterday when the Dhaka District Administration handed over the land to the university authorities. Several senior officials from JnU attended the event, including Treasurer Prof Dr Sabina Sharmin, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof Dr Muhammad Murshed Bhuyan, Registrar Prof Sheikh Md Giyas Uddin, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Mostofa Hasan, and Proctor Dr Muhammad Tajammul Haque.
Earlier on Monday, the Land Acquisition Branch-02 of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s Office issued an official notification to complete the land transfer process.
According to university sources, the plan for the second campus was approved during an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting back in 2017. The government initially handed over 188.60 acres of the land on January 23, 2020. However, the remaining 11.40 acres had been pending until now.
With the land acquisition process finally completed, the university authorities are optimistic about accelerating the development work for the new campus. The proposed second campus is expected to ease pressure on the existing campus in Old Dhaka and create better educational facilities for students in the future.
Teachers, students, and officials of JnU have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the campus construction will start soon to fulfill a long-cherished dream of the university community.
