The teachers of Jagannath University (JnU) have called for the appointment of a qualified, prudent, and courageous Vice-Chancellor (VC) from their own university to handle the changing situation of both the country and the institution. They made these demands during a discussion at the teachers' association lounge on Monday at 10 am.

At the meeting, teachers expressed dissatisfaction with past VCs, stating that they never considered JnU as their own. They highlighted that the second campus, which should have been completed within 6-7 years, remains unfinished due to a lack of commitment.

"The current situation in the country has changed. Now is the time to make a claim. Our teachers can better understand the problems of our campus," said a teacher.

Dr. Md. Bilal Hossain from the History Department shared that JnU has not had a VC from their own teachers for 19 years, which has hindered progress in education, research, and infrastructure. Sociology Department Chairman Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin added, "We want a VC from JnU’s teachers who is honest, prudent, and courageous to properly manage the university."

Professor Md. Laik from the Computer Science and Engineering Department stressed the importance of timing, saying, "It’s the right time to present our demands.

The VC must be from JnU and be qualified. We cannot afford to fail in our demands."

History Professor Dr. Shahid Quader Chowdhury urged teachers to change their behavior and avoid becoming mere supporters of the VC, adding that the teachers’ role should be more proactive and respectful.

The meeting also featured speeches from professors of various departments, including Dr. Lutfur Rahman, Md. Nur Alam Abdullah, Muhammad Akram Uzzaman, Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Hossain, Mustak Ahmed, and Mohammad Abdul Quader, all emphasizing the need for a dedicated and capable VC from within the university.
