JnU Dean's Award in limbo

Published : 06 Aug 2023 09:47 PM

Jagannath University’s (JnU) "Dean's Award" hasn't faced the light yet although the policy was made a year ago. As a result, no one knows exactly when this merit based award will be given by the Deans to students.

The concerned bodies claim that because of the budget deficiency, incoherence, and not getting response from the departments and for other reasons the award giving is lingering.

As per information, the university administration formed Deans Forum to activate the award giving. Though the award policy was supposed to be made in June last year, it was made and approved in the 11th meeting of Deans Forum in August last year.

In the 90th syndicate meeting, the dean award policies were approved. As per policy, the Registrar office sent letters to the departments to provide the students list. But, an allegation arose that the departments did not submit the list on time and some departments still haven't submit the list. As a result, a complexity has been created while verifying.

Information says that this year the Deans Award will be given to one student from each department (subject to eligibility) from the session of 2016-17. The concerned authority decided to deliver medals, certificates and special souvenirs to the awarded students. The award will be delivered in a program where the guardians would be invited. "As this award is a symbol of the glorious academic record, it will inspire the students more than they think. The concerned authority should not take more time", said the students.

Prof. Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman Khondaker, the Dean of Life and Earth Science said that because of some impediment the award giving is lingering. Everything is set up and soon it will be delivered.

"We are working on it. The verification process is going on for making the list. Hoping to deliver the award within August", said the Dean of Arts faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Rois Uddin.
