Jagannath University (JnU) celebrated their first convocation after 15 years of its birth in 2020 as a result of strong student protest.
After three years of the first convocation, the JnU administration planned to celebrate another convocation but the administration is procrastinating and hasn’t announced the convocation date yet.
The university administration said they will celebrate convocation by including the students from 2013-14 session to 2016-17 session who have passed Graduation, Post Graduation, MPhil., PhD. Besides, the students of session 2017-18 may also be included subjectedly with their result being published.
Though there was a plan to celebrate convocation in March, 2023 with the participation of 14000 students, the administration decided to postpone convocation celebration as the former President and the Chancellor was supposed to finish the term of his chair in April.
At the same time the administration also said that whenever the new President takes the chair they would celebrate convocation. But, the newly appointed President took his chair six months ago but the administration hasn’t taken any preparations yet. Whenever any question regarding convocation is arised or any of the administration members is asked they have always skipped questions.
As a result of the administration's 'no reply' attitude 14000 students are in uncertainty. The students and the teachers are expressing their thoughts saying that the university should arrange convocation in time so that the graduates can get a happy ending and the university can get pulsated.
Kamrul Hossain, A JnU graduate, expressed his frustration saying, "Convocation is a festival for a university. Every student wants to finish their academic career with convocation but in JnU case it's a misfortune for the students."
After the first convocation the authority has been giving hope to the students that they will celebrate convocation on a regular basis. After experiencing immense pressure from the students, the first convocation was celebrated but at the question of the second one, they have been making it complex day by day. It's a very much concerning issue for the students to put pressure on this matter and ensure regular convocation for every session.
Being anonymous, a student said, "I've heard convocation might be held in March but now it's the end of the year and still the administration is showing no interest in it."
On the other hand, the university administration is still confused about where they will celebrate the convocation.Vice-chancellor was questioned many times but every time he avoided convocation related questions and he didn’t want to talk about this.
The VC is now abroad for medical aid. As the VC is not here and no convocation sign is seen, the recent graduates and post graduates are expressing their frustration.
The Vice-Chancellor (Routine Duties) and the Treasurer Prof. Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed did not want to comment anything and said, "I don't want to talk about convocation at this moment. The VC will notify when he will come."
