Jiru dreams of having a farm of several hundred swans

Published : 02 Aug 2022 08:18 PM

Like other domestic birds, swans are a type of bird. Many have built a simple poultry farm, but never considered a swan farm. Juru Mia of Madhyapara village in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria is dreaming of starting a swan farm for the

first time.

He bought 4 swans from the local market and started rearing them. In one year, the number of king swans has increased to 30. Juru Mia said, "In the next two years, I will have hundreds of swans in my farm, I want to be a big farmer."

His swans are not only decorative, they guard houses, chase thieves, work like lawn mowers and eat the grass. Keeps the land clean by eating insects and spiders. Swan meat is a delicacy, its feathers are used to make pillows. They rarely lay eggs, which is why swan breeders are more enthusiastic about producing chicks than eating the eggs. There are different species of swans, among them Toulouse, Emden, African, Chinese (China) species are commonly seen.

The others are smaller in size except Toulouse and Emden. They lay large numbers of eggs, more than 60 a year. Chinese swans have a reputation as watchdogs. Zuru Mia said that the swan house should be open-air and ventilated, the floor should be paved/ hard but dry, dry at all times, 4 square meters per duck. Generally they start laying eggs in spring, Chinese swans lay eggs in winter. They lay more eggs in the second and third year than in the first year and the eggs are quite large in size. Swans incubate their own eggs, if available you can incubate swan eggs with turkey hens or Muscody ducks, chickens.

Swan eggs hatch in 28 days. Babies can easily graze on grass, resulting in less prepared food. Baby swan food is very similar to duck food. Swans do not suffer from many diseases, but all the diseases that one should be aware of in keeping swans are coccidiosis, cholera, coryza, spirochetosis, malnutrition. They startle all the people around by barking at the sight of unfamiliar sounds, people, and animals. Even with great excitement, sometimes even attacks.

Of all the swans, the Chinese swan is the most skilled at guard duty. Swan meat and eggs are important as delicacies in our country. At the age of 10 weeks, swans can be eaten as meat. 70 percent of the weight of the swan's body weight is meat if the feathers and pulse are excluded. Upazila animal resource officer Dr. Md. Shamim Ahmed said that swans are reared in all 20 unions of the upazila including municipal areas. We offer advice on a range of topics including vaccines.

Swan farming is profitable, we will help him with various advices including vaccines if anyone has a swan farm.
