JICA satisfied with development work of Cox’s Bazar municipality

Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Bangladesh Tomohide Ichiguchi expressed his satisfaction over the progress of work of the ongoing project of Cox’s Bazar municipality on Monday.

Tomohide Ichiguchi came up with the assertion at the review meeting of the ongoing project at Cox’s Bazar funded by JICA after visiting the project on Monday.

The Chief Representative said JICA will support Cox’s Bazar municipality in the future, the way they are supporting them in the present and had supported them in the past. The construction work of the flyover from Sayemon Beach Resort to Exotica Sampan Hotel and Resort, with the funding of Tk 250 crore from JICA, will start very soon, he said.

The meeting was held at the Poura conference room. Cox’s Bazar Municipality Mayor Mahbubur Rahman presided over the meeting while the municipality Chief Executive Officer AKM Torikul Alam presented the geographic situation of Cox’s Bazar. He highlighted the problem of drains as these are being filled due to landslide every year. Moreover, he expressed the need of modern drainage system, modern vehicle and enough manpower to clean the drains and proposed to provide modern small Japanese equipment due to the narrowness of the roads in Cox’s Bazar municipality.

Chief Representative of JICA assured to lend assistance to Cox’s Bazar municipality after hearing the problems and expressed interest to work on hospital equipment, technical training centers, fisheries training and other sectors with Cox’s Bazar municipality. Mayor Mahbubur Rahman expressed gratefulness and thanked Tomohide Ichiguchi from himself and on behalf of the Pourashava (municipality) Parishad as well. He said we are really lucky that JICA is working with three city corporations and one municipality of Bangladesh and that municipality is Cox’s Bazar municipality.
