Jibannagar Free Day was observed on Monday. On this day in 1971, Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga district, bordering the India, was freed from the invaders. In the face of fierce resistance from the freedom fighters and the Indian allied forces, the Pakistani forces left Jibannagar and fled towards Jhenaidah after a bloody battle.
Former commander of JibannagarMuktijoddhaSangsad, veteran freedom fighter Dalur Uddin said that despite the fall of the Pakistani forces in Jibannagar on November 26, 1971, the final victory came on December 4. In the early morning of this day, led by Indian Allied Forces Commander Major Dutta and Sector 8 Banpur Sub-Sector Commander Captain, later Chief of Army Staff Lt General (Retd) Mostafizur Rahman, freedom fighters and allied forces jointly entered through Dhopakhali border of Jibannagar Upazila. Then they ambushed the Pak forces in Jibannagar, Dattanagar, Santoshpur and Hasadah villages. A bloody battle ensued.
In this battle, the soldiers of the 29 Baloch regiment of the Pakistani army were defeated by the joint forces and fled towards the neighboring district of Jhenaidah. At that time, the freedom fighters set fire to the jeep used by Munchur Ali, the captain of Pakistan Army, who was identified as a rapist and inhumane torturer, and recovered the bodies of 7-8 unidentified young women who had just been killed after brutal torture from the police station warehouse.
On this day, spontaneous freedom fighters hoisted the flag of independent Bengal for the first time on the ground of Jibannagar. Administrative activities began after that day. A civilian administration system was introduced by placing the heroic freedom fighter HabiburRasul as the administrative officer and Mujibur Rahman in charge of the police station.
