Jhuma dreams for Olympics medal

Jhuma Akhter clinched the bronze medal in the compound women’s single of the Paris Olympic quota tournament beating Wallace Teresa of the USA by 138-134 held in Dubai on Wednesday last.

Jhuma Akter became the first Bangladeshi Para Archer to earn the direct quota place to represent the country in the compound women’s individual event of the Paris Paralympic Games to be held from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

Bangladesh took part in Para Olympic since 2004. But there was a lot of complexity in archer committee, so the team could not take part in the Para Olympic after 2008. The archer will take part in the Paris Olympic this year.

Jhuma’s directly qualified the Para Olympic after the final event on Thursday last. Joma defeated Namibia‘s Venter Katelynn 133-112 and Chinese Taipei’s Lee Yun-Hsien 134-130 before losing to Italy’s Virgilio Maria Andrea 136-137 in the semi-finals.

Jhuma has dream to win a medal from Paris Olympic. Bangladesh Para Archery team returned from Dubai on Saturday morning. Jhuma said, “I had a confidence that I could a place in Olympic.”

I have fulfil my dream. Now I will try to achieve a medal from Olympic. I shall practice everyday to prepare myself to secure a medal for the country.”

General Secretary of Para Archery Association Faisal Ahsanullah said, “We shall take care of Jhuma that she can earn a medal in Para Olympic. Jhuma, a physically challenged archer, achieved the feat, it is a great honour for Bangladesh in the international sports arena.”

Meanwhile, there are two-type of Olympic, one is Special and the other Para Olympic Bangladesh achieved a lot of medals from Special Olympic but none from Para Olympic.
