Jhenidah RAB arrests smuggler with 12 gold bars

The RAB personnel arrested a gold smuggler with 12 golden bars, cash money and other belongings from a Darshana bound passenger bus of Purbasha Paribahan at Jheniidiah BSCIC estate in the midnight of Saturday. 

The elite force also seized two mobile phone sets from his possession. The arrested was identified as Sharif Uddin, 55, son of Shafi Uddin of Damurhuda Bazerpara of Chuadanga.

RAB-6 company commander Additional superintendent of police Masud Alam said they were informed that a man with huge golden bars was marching towards Darshaha bordering area in Chuadanga in the guise of a passenger. They set up a check post near Bangladesh small and cottage industries corporation (BSCIC) estate in Jhenidah on the highway on Jheniidah-Magura highway and stopped the bus (Dhaka metro Ba-15-0611) at about 2.00 AM of Saturday. As the elite forces started searching the suspected passengers of the bus, a man suddenly tried to flee away. The RAB men chased and caught him. Later they seized 12 golden bars from two packets covered with scotch tapes in his shoes. The law enforcers also seized some cash money, mobile phone sets and other belongings from his possession.

1,400 gram weight golden bars were estimated for an amount of Taka 70 lakh. They were processing to file a case with Jhenidah police station, RAB official said.
