Jhenaidah District Police have returned 106 recovered mobile phone sets and Tk 67,457 in fraudulently transferred money to their rightful owners following a series of operations by the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell.
Superintendent of Police Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan formally handed over the mobile phones and money to the owners at a ceremony held at the conference room of the District Superintendent of Police Office on Thursday.
According to a press release issued by the district police, the operations were conducted from 1 July to 6 August. During the period, three accused were arrested in two murder cases filed with Kaliganj and Jhenaidah Sadar police stations.
Three accused were arrested in a robbery case filed with Kotchandpur Police Station, and the looted goods were recovered. Ten accused were arrested in a banditry case filed with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, while looted easy-bikes and mobile phones were recovered.
Another accused was arrested in a banditry case filed with Kaliganj Police Station. Police also rescued two victims in two separate kidnapping cases filed with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
In addition, 106 lost or stolen mobile phones and Tk 67,457 that had been mistakenly transferred through mobile financial services (MFS) were recovered from different parts of the country.
The press release said 28 victims of cyberbullying through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, IMO, TikTok and Snapchat were provided with necessary technical assistance. Two people reported missing through General Diary (GD) entries were also rescued.
Speaking at the mobile phone and money handover ceremony, SP Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan said, “The district police are working with utmost professionalism and using technology to prevent cybercrime and ensure the digital security of the people.
“Cyberbullying is a serious social and legal offence. I urge everyone to behave responsibly to create a safe digital environment.”
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sheikh Billal Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Mosfequr Rahman, and officers and members of the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell were present at the event.
