EC warns of stern action for any untoward incident, violence

Over 82 thousand voters of Jhenaidah municipality are going to elect their new mayor in the rescheduled polls date after long 11 years on today. The polls scheduled for June 15, was rescheduled for the third time die to violation of electoral code of conduct and some legal procedures. Four intending candidates have been contesting for the position of mayor, while 71 as ward councilors and 20 for three women reserved seats.

The Election commission (EC) had warned the candidates and other concern to show respect to the election code of conduct for a free and fare election as it was deferred several times leaving the municipal voters in panic and troubles.

Awami League Jhenaidah district unit vice president, Abdul Khalek has been contesting with the party symbol boat. The party fellows have been encouraging him to go ahead with the spirit of liberation. He said huge black money floating in the air of Jhenaidah as some candidates have been motivating the common voters with money. He is quite hopeful to bag the seat, Abdul Khalek said.

Qayum Shahrier Zahedi, a young and energetic man as well as a noted donor in various social and religious sectors fighting with the date tree with his organized forces in each and every parts of the municipality. 

Zahedi family has been playing significant role in standing by the under privileged and disadvantaged people since the outbreak of global havoc corona virus. Qayum Shahrier Zahedi seems to be the rival candidate against AL man Abdul Khalek, the commoners assumed.

Renowned contractor, also donor Mizanur Rahman Masum has been contesting with his symbol mobile phone with his supporters since the inception of the election process. Another candidate Serajul Islam has been fighting with his hand fan (haatpakha). Masum said he was hopeful about his victory as in the elections.

District election officer Abdus Salek when contacted said 82,615 voters are going to cast their votes on the rescheduled date for September 11. They had prepared 47 voting centres for smooth voting through electronic voter machine (EVM) in the scheduled time.
