27 Freedom Fighters (FF) were martyred in the border village of Kamanna of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah district on November 26, 1971.
The freedom fighters of Bogura union in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah observed the 53rd anniversary of the 27 martyrs. The local freedom fighters and Kamanna 27 Shahid Srity Sangha jointly arranged a milad mahfil and discussion meeting and also distributed food and showed honor to the family members of the martyrs.
Retired joint secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Biswas Lutfar Rahman presided over the discussion meeting while Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) central leader Khaa Md Amir Ali attended the discussion as the chief guest, and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Shailkupa thana unit former commander Rahmat Ali Mantu, Magura district unit deputy commander Abdur Rahman, and Jhenaidah district liberation war time commander Abu Jafar Feroz, among others, attended as special guests.
The freedom fighters with agitation said the government in 2022 had constructed a lucrative monument near the mass graves at a cost of Taka about 65 lakh with a new list of the martyrs, while the local government engineering department (LGED) in Jhenaidah had mysteriously constructed another monument at a cost of Taka 18.19 lakh titled “Muktijuddha Sritistambha” adjacent to the house in which the freedom fighters were killed.
They had protested it and demanded the demolition of the new monument and the construction of a memorial museum or freedom fighters complex without delay.
