Jhenaidah deputy commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football tournament was inaugurated on Monday afternoon.
Khulna divisional commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif inaugurated the tournament at Jhenaidah Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman Stadium releasing balloons in the sky. Ghoshal union eleven in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila had defeated Taherhuda union eleven of Harinakundu by 5-0 goals.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Rafiqul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Imran Zakaria, Jhenaidah municipality mayor Qayum Shahrier Zahedi Hizawl and district sports officer among others attended as special gusts.
Organized by Jhenaidah district sports association (DSA), the tournament was started at 4.30 pm. Ghorshal eleven netted two balls in Taherhuda union eleven’s net in the first half. Later in the second half, the same team netted another three balls to their Taherhuda counter part’s net one after another. Innocent Taherhuda union eleven was at a loss for the pitiable defeat by Ghorshal eleven.
Thousands of audience enjoyed the game. Final round of the tournament was scheduled for September 30, Jhenaidah district sports association sources said.
