Jhalakathi police alert against extortion on road

Jhalakathi district police has taken a strict stand to stop extortion in the transport sector on roads and highways in the district. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jalakathi Fatiha Yasmin has taken various steps to ensure smooth movement of vehicles in corona situation. 

However, Fatiha Yasmin led a special operation in the Gabkhan Bridge area on Saturday noon to stop extortion and restore order on the roads.

She instructed all concerned to be vigilant so that extortionists could not withdraw money on the highway under the name of transport lineman, supervisor, federation or any other name. She also advised the workers involved in transportation services to keep their own identity cards.

SP Fatiha Yasmin said that the government has decided to introduce limited public transport to boost the country's economic activities. In order to prevent extortion in the transport sector, patrols have been increased on the Jhalakathi-Barishal regional road with special check posts.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md. Habibullah, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Kazi Soaib, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) MM Mahmud Hasan and Sadar Police OC (Operations) Md. Murad Ali were present.
