Three days after the killing of Jubo Dal leader Mohammad Alamgir Alam (55) in a shooting by rivals in Raozan, a murder case has been filed at the local police station. On Monday night, the victim’s father, Abdus Sattar, filed the case naming 21 accused and mentioning another five to six unidentified persons as suspects at the Raozan Police Station.

The following day, Tuesday, police arrested two accused and sent them to jail through the court. The arrestees are Russel Khan (42), son of late Nurul Amin alias Roni Kerani of Harish Khan Para in Ward No. 4 of Raozan Union, and Md. Hridoy (22), son of Chuna Karim of Ward No. 9 under Raozan Municipality.

According to police sources, both arrestees are followers of BNP leader Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, while the deceased Alamgir Alam was a follower of Golam Akbar Khondker. Police suspect the murder occurred due to internal conflicts within the party.

Meanwhile, following the arrest of Chhatra Dal leader Russel Khan from his Harish Khan Para residence in Raozan Sadar Union late Monday night, tension flared up in the area. Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, activists held a protest procession and road blockade.

Around 12 noon, under the leadership of Saber Sultan Kajol, Vice President of Chattogram North District Jubo Dal, the protestors brought out a procession from the Munshirghata BNP office in the upazila headquarters. They blocked the Chattogram–Rangamati highway for nearly an hour, causing heavy traffic congestion and severe suffering for commuters.

Speakers at the rally demanded the unconditional release of Russel Khan and called for an end to harassment of party leaders and activists without reason.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for the Rangunia–Raozan Circle, Mohammad Belayet Hossain, PPM, said,“A case has been filed following the broad-daylight killing. Two named accused have been arrested in a special operation. Drives are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, said,“The investigation into the murder is progressing. The remaining accused will be arrested soon.”

It may be mentioned that on Saturday afternoon (October 25), Mohammad Alamgir Alam, a Jubo Dal leader, was shot dead by rivals near Kaykobad Jame Mosque in Ward No. 9 of Raozan Municipality. The incident has sparked tension across the area.
