Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal once again blocked Shahbagh intersection on Tuesday afternoon, demanding justice for the murder of Dhaka University student and JCD activist Shahriar Alam Shammo.

Traffic movement in the surrounding areas came to a standstill after JCD members began blocking roads around 3:30pm, Khalid Monsur, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said.

The JCD men, ignoring rain, sat on the road and chanted slogans.

Many commuters abandoned buses and other transport, choosing to walk to their destinations in the rain, while others remained stuck in their vehicles.

The protesters also demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor and proctor of Dhaka University, holding them responsible for the deteriorating campus security situation.

Alongside the Dhaka University JCD unit, activists from various other educational institutions under Dhaka-based and Dhaka Metropolitan JCD units participated in the demonstration.

Shammo, a student of the Institute of Education and Research of the 2018–19 session, and literature secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Sir AF Rahman Hall unit, was stabbed to death near Suhrawardy Udyan on May 13 following an altercation after a motorcycle collision.

Earlier on May 18, the JCD men blocked Shahbagh for several hours with the same demand.
