JBCCI teem meets ERD secretary

Bangladesh is looking forward to exporting USD 100 billion in the coming days, where under-construction mega infrastructures will play a vital role, said Sharifa Khan, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance. The ERD secretary came up with such an observation while exchanging views in a meeting with a Japanese delegation led by Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) President Hikari Kawai at her office in the capital on Tuesday.   

Members of the delegation are Joint Treasurer Maria Howlader, Directors Myungho Lee, Saori Fujimoto, Mohammed Sohel, and Executive Director Md. Emran.

Praising the Japanese cooperation the ERD secretary said that the mega projects like Matarbari Deep Sea Port, the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, the Extension of the 3rd terminal Project of HSIA, the Dhaka Metro Rail Project, and the Chittagong Port extension work constructing under the Japanese cooperation is very important for the country’s future growth.  

She stated that training for managerial skill development for the Bangladeshi mid-level manpower sector is also important as many companies are setting up their factories in EPZs area in Bangladesh. Bangladesh always has trust in Japanese work ethics and reliability and of course, the Government also feels good to have Japanese partners working in major projects like these.     

JBCCI president Hikari Kawai explained briefly about JBCCI and its contribution to promoting bilateral trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh. He emphasized the EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement) between Japan and Bangladesh. He mentioned that JBCCI is going to organize a Seminar on International Women's Day (IWD) to celebrate the accomplishments of women, raise awareness about ongoing struggles, and take action to promote gender equality.

 JBCCI also discussed concluding the FTA/EPA between Japan and Bangladesh and sought her cooperation in this regard.
