Jaya starrer ‘Jhora Palok’ release in theatres June 24

Versatile actress, four times National Film Award winner Jaya Ahsan starrer upcoming film titled ‘Jhora Palok’, directed by Sayantan Mukherjee based on Bengali poet Jibanananda Das’s controversial semi-autobiographical novel “Mallyaban”, will be released in theatres on June 24.

The actress will be seen playing the role of Jibanananda Das’s wife Labanya Prabha Das’s character in the film. Recently, a special press event was held arranged by the cast and crew where they discussed the release of the film.

Along with Jaya Ahsan the film also features Tollywood actor and producer Bratya Basu and Rahul Arunoday Mukhopadhyay they will portray the renowned poet Jibanananda Das at different points in his life. The film will focus on the post-Tagore era in India.

Besides, Debshankar Haldar has played the role of poet Sajanikanta Das, Kaushik Sen has played the role of poet Buddhadev Basu and Supriya Dutt has played the role of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Biplab Bandopadhyay is in the Bengali panorama section.

Recently the film was screened at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival. In the film Jaya will be conceived in two different timelines as Das’s wife Labanya Prabha and also, in the avatar of Surangana, an eminent filmmaker from the present era. 

Regarding the context Jaya said "There are many twists and turns in my character in the movie. Labanya, gave him the courage and ignited within him the fire to pursue his goals. Her love for the poet is visible throughout the film”.

 "There is a lot of debate about my character. The reason I chose this film is because I truly wanted to enact the role of Jibananda Das’s wife," she further added.

About the film director Sayantan Mukherjee said, "Bratya Da and Jaya Ahsan are extremely confident about the film. Bratya Da has delivered an unprecedented performance. I do not expect people to throng to watch ‘Jhora Palok’ as it is not a mainstream film. But if people invest their time in the film, we will be convinced that they have not forgotten Jibanananda yet."

The director has also announced plans to release 'Jhora Palok' in Kolkata as well as Bangladesh. He said, 'Bangladesh is involved in many parts of Jibanananda Das's life. As a result, we are trying to go to the people of Bangladesh with the work.
