Jatiya Party for disqualifying retired govt servants for polls

­Jatiya Party (JaPa) on Sunday proposed disqualifying those serving in government, semi government and autonomous institutions after their retirement, for elections.

JaPa made the proposal while participating in a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) over the upcoming general elections at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.

A 14-member delegation headed by Secretary General of JaPa Mujibul Haque Chunnu joined the dialogue with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in the chair.

During the talks, the party leaders also suggested increasing the election-expenditure from 25 lakh to 50 lakh.

They also recommended scrapping the current provision which allows the cancellation of the candidacy for outstanding credit card and utility bills.

Party Co-Chairman Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Advocate Salma Islam, Presidium Members Sahidur Rahman Tepa, Fakhrul Imam, Mir Abdus Sabur Asud, Shafiqul Islam Sentu, Advocate Md Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan, Liaquat Hossain Khoka, Zahirul Islam Zahir and Mostafa Al Mahmud, Vice Chairman Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan and Joint Secretary General Golam Mohammad Raju also took part in the dialogue.
