Jasimuddin’s 118th birth anniversary observed

The 118th birth anniversary of Jasimuddin, popularly known as “Palli Kabi” (folk poet), was observed amid various programmes in Faridpur on Friday.

The poet was born at his maternal uncle’s house at Tambulkhana village under Faridpur district.

As part of the celebration, Faridpur district administration, Jasim Foundation, Faridpur Press Club, Ansar Uddin High School and various other organisations paid floral tributes to the poet’s grave at Ambikapur. 

People from all walks of life and members of different cultural and social organisations also paid their respect to the poet. They also offered fateha at the grave. 

Meanwhile, after placing floral wreath, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Atul attended a discussion as the chief guest with ADC (general) Dipak Kumar Roy in the chair. 

Jasimuddin's ageless creation “Nakshi Kanthar Math” was translated in several foreign languages. 

He was also the creator of “Shojon  Badiyar Ghat”, “Rangila Nayer Majhi”, “Matir Kanna”, “Suchayani”, “Beder Meye”, “Pallibadhu”, “Thakur Badir Abinay”, “Dalim Kumar” etc.

When he was still a university student, his poem “Kabar” (Grave) was included in school textbooks. He played a key role in the revival of folk literature in Bengal during the 20th century.

A versatile writer, Jasimuddin wrote poems, ballads, songs, dramas, novel, stories, memoirs, travelogues, etc.
