All business establishments in Jashore have been declared closed since Tuesday. The day before, there were crowds of people all over the city on Monday. Eid shopping spree was going on in the market. The sellers are also struggling to handle the buyers.

The district administration has decided to close the market due to non-compliance with hygiene and social distance. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the district administration on May 17. Earlier, after 44 consecutive days, a limited number of shops were allowed to open on May 10. But that decision has been overturned because of the increased risk of corona infection due to crowds of people over a week.

From Monday morning onwards, HMM Road, MK Road, Collectorate Market and other markets in Jashore city were flooded with people. Most of the business establishments did not follow the hygiene rules as per the conditions of the district administration.

There was no social and physical distance. Thousands of people gathered on the pretext of shopping.  Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Arif said the market was opened in Jashore on a limited scale under the supervision of the district administration as per the government decision. At the same time, the members of the market monitoring committee tried their best to maintain social distance including making announcements at all times.

But the number of corona patients in Jashore is increasing day by day as traders and buyers in the market do not maintain social distance. That is why the district administration has declared the market closed. The district administration's campaign to maintain social distance and follow government directives will continue as before.
