Jashore farmers busy with winter vegetable cultivation

The vegetable cultivators in eight upazilas of Jashore district are busy to cultivate the various kinds of winter vegetable, specially the leafy vegetable.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said that the farmers of the vast areas of the district already completed the cultivation of leafy vegetable such as radish, palongshak, lalshak, datashak, bean, bottle gourd, cucumber, lady’s finger, brinjal, cabbage and cauliflower are also being cultivated in full swing in all the eight upazilas of the district.

Now per kg cauliflower is selling at taka 70,per kg cabbage is selling at taka  30 to 35, per kg bean is selling 50 taka, per kg lady’s finger is selling for  taka 55 to 60, per kg brinjal is selling for  taka 40 to 50, per kg radish is selling for  taka 30,per piece  medium size gourd is selling  for taka 40 to 45, per kg palongshak is selling for  taka 30 and per kg lalshak and greenshak is selling at taka 40.

Meanwhile, the early cultivated vegetable is appearing in the markets. The cultivators are happy to get high price of their products.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the land of sadar upazila, Bagherpara, Chaugacha, Jhikorgacha and Sharsha upazilas are suitable for vegetable cultivation.

Deputy Director of Jashore DAE Emdad Hossain Sheikh told that more than 20,000 hectares of land was brought under vegetable cultivation in eight upazilas of the district current year.The  vegetable cultivators already cultivated over 16,000 hectares of land till December 8. During the current season, the cultivation of vegetable will be increased in the district, he said.
