Jashore has become a role model in the project of converting waste into wealth through proper management at Jhumjhumpur area in the district.

Such a project is the first in Jashore in Bangladesh. Through it, biogas, organic fertilizer and electricity are being produced from the digestive waste of daily life. The 'Integrated Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility' project has been set up on 13.97 acres (about 40 bighas) of land at Jhumjhumpur dirt area under the supervision of the municipality which expense 23 crore taka. This is a sub project under the 'City Region Development Project'.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Development Bank (KFW) and the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA), along with the government's own funds, assisted in the implementation of the original project.

Project's supervisor Jahangir Alam said the municipal authority is collecting waste in the truck from 6am every day. It is then taken to storage after weighing in the weight station. The workers involved in the selection of the waste there. Then the decomposing products-such as vegetables, fruit pods, grasses, leaves, etc. (which are useful for making organic fertilizers) go to the biogas plant. There, machines are processed and prepared for biogas which fitted for 28 days. The boiler is then dried on a machine or made into a suitable biomarker for use with a filter. Then dry or sieve on a boiler machine Organic fertilizers are converted into useful organic fertilizer. The color and grain of these fertilizer are very similar to those of tea. Later we pack the fertilizer.

He said, the rest goes to the biogas plant. On the other hand, the liquid and dry parts are also sent to the biogas plant through the process of human shit. It is kept here for four to five days. And the rest (slices) are used in biogas. Electricity is generated from the biogas produced. We have three generators here. Where electricity is being produced is 200 kWh. The entire generation of electricity is being used in the plant area.

The official said,A large part of the waste collected from the town and suburb indigestible is wasteful. That is, plastic or polyethylene, which dumped in the land field. However, two years ago, this suburb was a dumping area of a municipality. The atmosphere around scent of heavy dirt. Human movement was not normal inside the dumping are After the implementation of the project, the landscape has changed.

The project officials said that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction of the project through a video conference on December 31, 2017. Its implementation ended on December in the year 2018. The project has a total of 47 employees.

Project sources said, the plant has the capacity to produce biogas of four tonnes daily. Currently being produced from 800 kgs to one tonne. Although the plant has the capacity to produce 720 cubic meters of biogas daily, it is now producing 400 cubic meters. In addition, the power generation capacity is 430 kWh per day. Currently, 200 kWh is being produced every day.

Supervisor of the project Jahangir Alam said, the amount of waste that can be processed here, compared to the day, is not coming. We have to collect more than twice as much waste to reach the desired target.

Jashore Municipal Mayor Jahirul Islam Chakladar Rentu said, it was difficult to make the place suitable for removing hundreds of years of dirt. It was done with the help of everyone, he said. Jhikargachha Municipal authority agreed to give the necessary waste for this project. But the municipal authority failed to give waste. The project will be discussed with the concerned people at the earliest. At the same time, step will be taken to use alternative to non-perishable products, he said.

When contacted, associate Professor of environmental science at Jashore University of Science and Technology Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said, the process of generating resources by processing waste has begun in Jashore first in the country. For other districts, it could be a role model. When I was in India in training on the subject, I am very appreciative of this project. I am not aware of the technicalities of the project. However, if you can do it scientifically, better result can be expected, he said.
