Japanese investment in automobile sector sought

Speakers at seminar in Tokyo on Thursday urged Japanese businessmen and investors to come forward to explore new areas for investment including automobile sector and source more quality products from Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized the seminar titled ‘Japan-Bangladesh Economic Cooperation: Further Enhancing of the Business Prospects and Opportunities’ on Thursday at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the embassy. Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmed, Secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD)Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited MAN Siddique and Senior Vice President of JICA Hara Shohei were present at the seminar. Economic Minister of Bangladesh Embassy Syed Nasir Ershad moderated the event.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmed in opening remarks relation between Bangladesh and Japan has been elevated to ‘Strategic Partnership’ during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s latest visit to Japan in April 2023 which enhanced opportunities for cooperation with Japan in many key areas.

He urged Japanese businessmen and investors to come forward to explore new areas for investment including automobile sector and source more quality products from Bangladesh.

Additional Secretary of ERD AKM Shahabuddin Ahmed gave a presentation on Macroeconomic situation, business environment and investment opportunities in Bangladesh focusing on prospective projects for Japanese investment.  Deputy Director General of JICA Sakudo Shunsuke gave an overview on ongoing JICA projects in Bangladesh.

Secretary of ERD Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky urged Japanese participants to explore the facilities offered by the government of Bangladesh and be a partner in Bangladesh’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

He outlined the economic progress the country made over the last 15 years under the prudent and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and thanked Japan for its continuous support for this journey towards development and prosperity. 

He hoped that the existing relationship between the two countries would be deepened and strengthened in the future by increasing communication and cooperation in various arena.

Officials of Bangladesh Embassy, Japan Government and JICA, and representatives from Japanese companies were present at the event.

A four-member delegation from ERD led by the ERD secretary now on a four-day visit in Japan. 

During the visit, the delegation attended several high-level meetings with Japanese officials including Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism Uehara Atsushi, Deputy Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kasukabe Hideki, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Finance Tsuchiya Akihiro and Senior Vice President of JICA Hara Shohei.
