Japanese envoy inaugurates Community Skill Development Centre at Habiganj

In a significant step towards grassroots human security and skill development, the Community Initiative Society (CIS) has established a Community Skill Development Center in Habiganj with the generous support of the Embassy of Japan under the Grant Assistance for Grass-root Human Security Projects (GGHSP). The project, named "Construction of a Community Skill Development Center in Habiganj district," aims to empower the local community by providing essential skills.

Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, IWAMA Kiminori, visited and inaugurated the newly established Community Skill Development Center in Habiganj on Thursday. During his visit, Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori observed various activities at the center and engaged with beneficiaries, expressing his appreciation for the overall initiatives undertaken by CIS. He conveyed his hope to continue supporting grassroots communities in Bangladesh.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Edu & ICT) Muhammad SadiKur Rahman also attended the Ambassador's visit and expressed gratitude. He wished success for CIS in its future endeavors to provide support for the people of Habiganj. The event was attended by Tanuka Voumik, AC Land, Upazila Land Office, Chairman, Members, and other local leaders.

The inauguration ceremony also saw the presence of Iwasaki Daichi, Second Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, Nobutaka Miyahara, Senior Advisor, Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD), Reina Inoue from A-PAD Japan, Roshelle Scharenguivel from A-PAD Sri Lanka, Sumaidi from A-PAD Indonesia, Kathleen Barrientos-Baez from A-PAD Philippines, Jongwon Sung, Management Planning Team Leader, A-PAD Korea, Md. Golam Mostofa, Executive Director, CIS, Dr. Omar Sharif Ibne Hasan, Director, DCH, and other participants from NGOs, private sectors, civil society, and members of CIS & DCH Trust.

The international symposium held in conjunction with the inauguration was moderated by Sadia Samad Mou & Dr. Md. Fuadul Islam, providing a platform for discussions on the importance of skill development for community empowerment and resilience.

The establishment of the Community Skill Development Center marks a collaborative effort to enhance the capabilities and opportunities for the local population in Habiganj, aligning with the shared vision of sustainable development and human security.
