The festival of Janmashtami was observed all over the country on Monday following health guidelines.

Special prayers were held to get rid of the deadly coronavirus pandemic and for the welfare of the country.

Nirmal Chatterjee, general secretary of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, said that the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna has been celebrated on Janmashtami in compliance with hygiene rules amid the pandemic.

“The Janmashtami procession or parade is not being held this time as per the government instructions,” he added.

The festival started on Monday morning with Chandipath and Gita Yajna. Devotees believe that Lord Krishna appeared on the earth as an incarnation of a symbol of Hinduism to establish love, truth and justice.

Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Dhaka Metropolitan Puja Udjapan Committee celebrated the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. However, due to the pandemic, the Janmashtami procession had been restricted this year.

Traditional religions believe that Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra about 5,200 years ago.
