Jamuna fertilizer factory halts productions for gas crisis

 The country's largest Jamuna Fertilizer Plant (JFCL) located at Sarishabari in Jamalpur has been temporarily disconnected from the gas connection.

Urea production has been stopped indefinitely since Monday (January 15) evening.

In order to keep the production of Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Company uninterrupted, the gas pressure has been reduced at the Jamuna Fertilizer Factory (JFCL).

According to JFCL sources, since the establishment of KPI-1 standard Jamuna Fertilizer Factory under the control of Bangladesh Chemical Industry Corporation (BCIC), produced 1,700 tonnes per day in May. Tonnes of urea was being produced for several years, due to lack of gas pressure and machinery defects, the production decreased from 1000 to 200 tonnes in May last year.  In the meantime, the authorities stopped gas supply to this factory twice every year.

Lately, to ensure adequate gas supply to the Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Company, the gas connection was disconnected at the Jamuna Fertilizer Factory from Monday afternoon, said Acting General Manager (Administration) of Jamuna Fertilizer Factory, Delwar Hossain.

Confirming the matter, he said over phone that the BCIC informed that the gas pressure is low.  After that on Monday around 3.30 pm the gas connection was disconnected in the factory.  However, he could not say when the gas connection and production will start.
