Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuiyan has found himself on the sidelines of domestic football after failing to secure a new club during the recently concluded transfer window. The 34-year-old midfielder was not sought after by any team, leaving his playing future uncertain.
It remains unclear whether Bhuiyan was not offered any contracts or if he declined the available options due to his current whereabouts abroad. Last season, he joined Abahani Limited in the second half of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) following a spell with Argentina's Sol de Mayo.
Born in Denmark, Bhuiyan has been a cornerstone of the Bangladesh national team since making his debut in 2013.
He has played for several top prominent clubs in Bangladesh, including Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Sheikh Russel KC, Saif Sporting Club, Mohammedan Sporting, and Chittagong Abahani. His most recent club was Sheikh Russel KC, which, alongside Sheikh Jamal DC, withdrew from the BPL due to the ongoing situation in the country.
If Jamal will miss clubs at the mid-window of the players’ registration, the playmaker of Bangladesh national side will have to spend the season without club.
Though there was rumor that Jamal would sign for Brothers Union but he (Jamal) was not in the list of the Gopibagh outfit when they sumbit the players name to BFF at midnight.
Meanwhile, Nigerian-Bangladeshi striker Eleta Kingsley has found a new home at Brothers Union after missing out on last season's action.
The withdrawal of Sheikh Jamal DC and Sheikh Russel KC has reduced the number of teams participating in the BPL to ten. The league is expected to kick off in early October with a single match of the Challenge Cup between defending champions Bashundhara Kings
and runners-up Mohammedan Sporting.
