Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has launched a dengue awareness campaign in Tarab Municipality of Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj, with leaflet distribution and mosquito repellent spraying.

Organised by Tarab Municipality Jamaat, the programme began on Monday morning (October 5) at Tarab Bazar and surrounding residential areas.

Tarab Municipality Ameer Muhammad Nazmul Islam chaired the inaugural programme, attended by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Majlish-e-Shura member and Narayanganj District Secretary Muhammad Hafizur Rahman as the chief guest. Tarab Municipality Jamaat Secretary Rafiul Haque Nowfel, Mohammad Mubarak Hossain and Hasan Imam, along with other local leaders, were also present.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hafizur Rahman said dengue had reached alarming levels across the country. He criticised the government’s efforts to clean areas and spray mosquito repellents as unsatisfactory, claiming that hospitals were overwhelmed with dengue patients and had no vacant beds.

He also alleged that many people were dying of dengue every day while the government’s response remained inadequate. He further alleged that the government’s cadre forces were leading attacks and vandalism in hospitals.

Following the speeches, Hafizur Rahman distributed dengue prevention awareness leaflets among the public and formally inaugurated the mosquito repellent spraying programme in the area. #EK
