Jail Killing Day observed countrywide

The nation observed the Jail Killing Day across the country on Tuesday (November 3) commemorating the assassinations of four national leaders, who were brutally murdered inside the Dhaka Central Jail in 1975. 

Four national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Qamaruzzaman were killed on November 3 in 1975, just 79 days after the August 15 massacre.

The ruling Awami League, its front organisations and several socio-cultural organisations arranged various programmes marking the day.

In Noakhali, the Jail Killing day was observed in Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) with due respect, reports our NSTU Correspondent. 

Marking the day, NSTU VC Prof Dr Didar ul Alam placed floral wreath in the Central Shaheed Minar on the campus. Later, the NSTU Teachers Association, Officers Association also placed wreath there.

A discussion was also held in front of the Shaheed Minar where Prof Dr Didar ul Alam commemorated the contribution of the martyred four national leaders.

NSTU  Treasurer Prof Dr  Mohammed  Faruque Uddin, president of NSTU Teachers Association  Prof Dr  Newaz  Mohammed Bahadur, General Secretary Maznur Rahman, president of NSTU Officers Association Shakhawat Hossain, General Secretary Mezbah Uddin Palash, Chairman of  Department of Microbiology Dr Firoz Ahmed and teachers,  deans, provosts, officials were present at the event. 

In Kishoreganj, district Awami League arranged observed the day and the 45th martyrdom anniversary of national leader Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam in the district with due respect, reports our Kishoreganj Correspondent

On the occasion, a discussion was held at the Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Chattar. District Awami League President Advocate Kamrul Ahsan Shajahan presided over the event. 

 Kishreganj district Awami League leaders placed a wreath at a portrait of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam marking his 45th martyrdom anniversary and the Jail Killing Day.

District Awami League General Secretary Advocate MA Afzal, Forest and Environment Secretary Anayet Karim Omi, Kishoreganj Municipality Mayor Md. Parvez Miah, District Mohila Awami League President Dilara Begum Asma, its General Secretary Bilkis Begum, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Advocate Ataur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Chairman Mamun Al Masud Khan, Vice-Chairman Abdus Sattar attended the meeting.  Special prayers were offered at mosque, temple and others religious institutions in the district. 

In Kushtia, the authorities of Islamic University (IU) observed day on the campus in Kushtia, reports our IU Correspondent. 

On the occasion, the IU authorities placed floral wreath led by its vice chancellor Prof Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam at the feet of ‘Mrittunjoyee Mojib’ on the campus at noon. IU pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif and others were present at the time.  Over 100 officials were attended the programme while the university administrative body paid tributes and homage to the murderers of the Jail Killing Day.

In Pabna, the Pabna University of Science and Technology observed the Jail Killing Day in due manner following hygiene rules, reports our Pabna Correspondent. 

Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr. M Rostam Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Anwar Khasru Parvez and Additional Registrar Bijan Kumar Brahma paid homage to the four national leaders and Bangabandhu with wreaths at the Swadhinata Chattar.

Various social and cultural organizations including PUST Teachers Association, Officers Association, Employees Association, Bangabandhu Parishad, Proctor's Office, Student Advisory Office also paid their respects. In Bogura, various programmes were organised at the initiative of the district Awami League. A minute of silence was observed, national, party and black flags were hoisted and wreaths were laid at the portraits of Bangabandhu and the four national leaders, reports our Bogura Correspondent.

District Awami League President Mojibur Rahman Majnu presided over a discussion meeting at 8:30 am while, district AL General Secretary Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, Zila Parishad Chairman Dr. Maqbool Hossain and others spoke.

On the other hand, Bangabandhu Parishad Bogura also laid wreaths on the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders in the presence of General Secretary Principal Dr. SM Millat Hossain and others.

In Jhalokathi, the day was observed in the district with due manner, reports our Jhalokathi Correspondent. 

On the occasion, leaders and activists of Jhalokathi district Awami League paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders with wreaths.

Later, a discussion was held at the party office. District Awami League President Sardar Md. Shahalam presided over the discussion while, General Secretary Adv. Khan Saifullah Panir, Joint-General Secretary Tarun Kumar Karmakar and others spoke.

At the end of the discussion, prayers were offered for the souls of the four national leaders and the martyrs of August 15 including Bangabandhu.

In Chapainawabganj, the day was observed in the district through various programmes, reports our Chapainawabganj Correspondent. 

On the occasion, a mourning rally was brought out of district Awami League office after hoisting national and party flags. Later, AL leaders laid wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders at the Fire Service More in the town. Chapainawabganj Municipal AL President Prof. Shariful Islam presided over the brief street meeting while, Abdul Wadud, General Secretary of District AL and former Member of Parliament from Chapainawabganj-3 Sadar cons­tituency spoke.

At the end, prayers were offered for the welfare of the country and the nation and for the forgiveness of the souls of the four national leaders.

In Jheanidah, the day was observed in bordering Moheshpur upazila in the district, reports our Roving Corres­pondent The upazila Awami League organized a day-long programme at Zilla Parishad auditorium.

Presided over by Awami League’s Moheshpur upazila unit president Sazzadul Islam, MP from Jhenaidah 3 constituency Advocate Shafqul Azam Khan Chanchal attended the event as chief guest. former AL vice president Sheikh Nizamuddin, general secretary Mir Sultanuzzaman Liton, AL Moheshpur municipality unit acting president Amal Kundu, general secretary Emdadul Haque Bulu and union parishad chairman Shamsul Haque among others spoke in the discussion. A milad mahfil seeking salvation of the souls of the four national leaders was also held there.
