The activities of the Babhasi International Film Festival have resumed, with Daily Sun journalist Md Jahidul Islam joining the jury for the 2024-2025 edition. Jahidul Islam confirmed that the work of screening and selecting films is already underway.
Organised as a tri-nation initiative by Bangladesh, India, and Singapore, the Babhasi Film Festival has received a total of 71 submissions from both domestic and international filmmakers. In the first round of evaluation, the jury has shortlisted 26 films for the second round. From these, seven films will advance to the final round, based on merit and the jury’s discretion.
“It is a great pleasure and honour for me to work as a judge for the Babhasi International Film Festival. As an entertainment journalist, this is also a matter of great pride,” Jahidul Islam said.
The festival’s awards will cover a wide range of categories, including best scriptwriter, producer, artiste, cinematographer, makeup artiste, art director, editing, and background music. The jury will determine the first, second, and third positions after careful merit-based evaluation.
The festival authorities aim to provide a platform for emerging talent, helping newcomers showcase their skills and gain recognition in the media and entertainment industry. Many past winners have gone on to establish successful careers in their respective fields, demonstrating the festival’s impact on developing fresh talent.
In addition to Jahidul Islam, popular actors Akhomo Hasan and Shamim Zaman are also serving as judges for the festival. Their combined expertise is expected to ensure a thorough and credible selection process, highlighting creativity and excellence in filmmaking.
