IUB starts economics lecture series

The Department of Economics, School of Business, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the 1st lecture of “Economics Lecture Series” on Monday. The lecture was conducted by Dr Md Khaled Saifullah on “Understanding Poverty through Multiple Windows”. Dr Saifullah is currently working as the Learning Specialist, Chemonics International Inc and is an alumnus of the Department of Economics as well.

Professor Dr Mohammad Aminul Karim, dean, School of Business, IUB, and Dr Shahriar Kabir, head, Department of Economics, School of Business, IUB along with faculty members of the Department of Economics and other departments from the School of Business were present. Students from the School of Business attended the lecture. Dr Saifullah presented on the different components of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and its increasing relevance in better understanding poverty today.

A lively question-answer session took place following the lecture where faculty members and students participated enthusiastically. Professor Aminul Karim highly appreciated the session in his speech and handed over a crest to Dr Saifullah as a token of appreciation on behalf of the Department of Economics. Dr Shahriar Kabir delivered a vote of thanks and invited everyone to participate in future lectures of the “Economics Lecture Series” to be organized by the Department of Economics.
