IU teachers vying for VC, treasurer posts

The term of the running VC and Treasurer of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will end on August 20 and over 15 teachers have already started vying. For these highest positions.

 Centering these most important posts, teachers and officials of the university are divided into several groups and the senior teachers are very busy even on close campus. They are also in touch with the Prime Minister's Office, the ministry of Education, The UGC, the local parliamentarians, the ministers and even the ruling student’s body.

 Campus sources said, on August 21 in 2016, Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari of English Department and Prof Dr M Selim Toha of Law department of the university were appointed as the VC and Treasurer respectively for 4 years.

 If UGC does not  give any instruction by 20 August, these two high posts will be vacant while the current Pro VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman will act as vice chancellor as ex officio.

Three administrative persons are now the candidates for the post of VC whereas Dr Askari is trying to acquire the post for the second time.

 A part from this the  teachers also held a human chain seeking the removal of the current VC Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari from his post after raising various accusations such as he was involved in teacher recruitment scam and he divides progressive teachers and officers association into different groups.

 Besides, Prof Dr Kamal Uddin, former VC of the university, Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman, President of IU Bangabandhu  Parishd, Prof Dr Abdus Sattar, former vice chancellor of Jessore Science and Technology University and Nasim Banu, dean of Social Science faculty of the university are trying to gain the prestigious post.

 Teachers from Jagannath and Rajshahi Universities are reportedly vying for the post of vice chancellor of Islamic University. Among them, Prof Dr Afzal Hossain, IU former treasurer and former chairman of  Tourism and Hospitality Management department of the university, Prof Dr Moniruzzaman of Accounting Department of Jagannath University, Prof Dr Shah Azam Shantonu of Marketing department and also the former general secretary of RU Teachers Association.

 In addition, to get the treasurer post many teachers started their vying among them. They are Prof Dr Mahbubul Arfin, general secretary of IU Bangabandhu Parishad, Prof Dr Anwarul Haque Swapon, dean of Biological Sciences of the university, Prof Dr Shahjahan Mandal of Law department, IU Teacher Association President Kazi Akther Hossain, Prof Alomgir Hossain Bhuyan of Economics department and Prof Dr Mahbubar Rahman, former proctor of the university.
