IU teachers formed chain against UGC’s uniform policy

A group of teachers of Islamic University formed a human chain on Wednesday demanding abolition of the University Grants Commission’ uniform requirement policy and its promotion systems for public university teachers.

The human chain held in front of Mrittunjoyee Mujib mural near the university main entrance area under the banner of ‘General Teachers of Islamic University’ around 11:30am.

Among others general teachers along with Prof Dr Anwarul Haque Swaponpon, Prof Dr Mustafa Kamal, Associate Professor Rakibul Islam Rakib, Muntasir Rahman Shohan, Jashim Uddin, Ariful Islam, Hasnat Nahid and Inzamul Haque Sazal attended the human chain.

While addressing the chain, speakers said that the newly proposed requirement policy for public university teachers is contradictory with the autonomous of institutions.

University Teachers Federation had already rejected the policy and UGC should not lead the public universities under uniform system, speakers added.

Mentioned, IU Teachers Association (IUTA) rejected the UGC’s proposal for unified policy which the association viewed as disharmonious in a general meeting of the wing while around 250 teachers assent the rejection against uniform requirement policy.
