IU student faces ragging

A father of a first year student of Islamic University in Kushtia has submitted a complaint to the registrar HM Ali Hasan on Tuesday about a ragging incident with his son. 

The sufferer is a student of Human Resource Management (HRM) department under 2022-23 academic session of the university. The matter was confirmed by the University proctor Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad.

In this mail, the sufferers student father said to draw registrar attention that, “Honorable high court declared that ragging in Islamic University is legally banned and if anyone do this will get punishment and void his studentship,

My son was admitted in the Human Resource Management (HRM) department under 2022-23 academic sessions. He, along with his around seven-eighth classmates is tortured by some student. They call them to teach discipline, carrying them water in cricket tournaments, checking mobile phones and keeping them busy anywhere.

He also added in the mail, my son is afraid and couldn't sleep at night. Now, I am seeking your help whether I will continue my son in your university or not. I don't get the contact of proctor sir so that I can place my appeal, please consider this issue seriously.”

Shawkat Hossain, the father of the student said, “As a father, I am shocked by what happened to my child on the campus. My family members are ruined and worried.

When asked to know the name of the student, his father didn’t want to say it for his child's safety.  He will come to the campus soon, the father of the student also added.”

Assistant Professor Shimul Ray, chairperson of Human Resource Management (HRM) department said, I have not received any complaint yet. However, if any such incident occurs, we will take action.”

In the mail, the sufferers’ father did not mention detailed information about the victim and the accused. I asked him over phone to provide complete information about them and we will take action as per the information’, said IU proctor Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad.
