IU pays tribute to language martyrs

The authority of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of the 1952 historic language movement, marking ‘Amar Ekushey’ and the International Mother Language day.

Over 2000 teachers, officers and students of the university paid their deep respects to the national heroes of the language movement for their supreme sacrifice walking barefoot, wreathing flowers and singing ‘Amar Vayer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February Ami Ki Vhulite Pari.

IU vice chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari led the university in paying the homage by placing wreaths at university central Shaheed Minar around 12:01am on early Friday. Earlier, a mourning procession paraded the main roads of the university while pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha and among others were attended the procession and the it ended in front of the martyrs alter on the campus. 

IU Teachers Association, BangaBandhu Parisad, Officers Association, IU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, , IU Journalist Association and various social, voluntary, cultural organization and departments, Halls paid respect by floral wreaths. Meanwhile, a discussion programme on ‘Remembering Amar Akushey’ was held at Bangla Manch adjacent to the university faculty building around 11:30am.

IU VC Dr Rashid Askari addressed the programme as chief guest presided by student’s advisor of the university Prof Dr M Saidur Rahman while its pro-VC and treasurer present as special guests. Around: 11:00am, a three day long Books and Technology innovation fair inaugurated by the university authority on the occasion of mother language day at Amrokanon on the campus. Over 47 stalls got permission to display and sell their book and technology innovation including English, Public Administration, Arabic Language and Literature, Folklore Studies, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering departments.

 Mentioned, a prayer offered at university central mosque after Juma for the peace of martyrs who sacrifice their lives in language movement in 1952. Besides, a chaos took place between Bangabandhu Parishd and Bangabandhu parishad election commission unit at university central shaheed Minar while various association were placing floral wreath here on early Friday. Afterword, the elected IU officers association made disorder here after placing floral wreath by newly formed officers association, naming supporters of university authority.

IU Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman controlled the situation quickly with a view to avoid any unwanted position and to pay deep tribute and homage for the language martyrs peacefully.
