The members of Islamic University (IU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) cut paddy of a poor farmer at Kashimpur village under Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah on Sunday.
Farmer Abdus Salam said he was not in a position to harvest the paddy from his one bigha of land for last few days for financial hardship due to labour crisis. The IU students had solved the problem cutting his paddy and arranged reach the paddy at his courtyard themselves.
Raqibul Islam, general secretary of IU BCL, said as per the direction of the Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina and advice by student organization’s central unit president Al Nahiyan Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya, they had taken decision to stand by the poor farmer from their humanitarian ground.
The will continue this sort of activities when the poor farmers have been facing day labourer crisis due to Covid 19 throughout the country. BCL members Nasim Ahmed Joy, Mehedi Hasan, Hafiz, Badhan, Tarun, Nabil among others participated in the noble work of paddy cutting.
Farmer Abdus Salam said participation of the varsity students in cutting paddy from his one bigha of land, was blessings to him when he was worried with the ripen paddy standing on the land for past few days. “I pray for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the students participated in cutting the paddy from my land without any remuneration”, said Abdus Salam.
