Italy has expressed interest in investing 200 million Euros in Bangladesh for rural infrastructure construction, communication systems, potable water supply and sewerage management in Bangladesh.
On Sunday, Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Enrico Nunziata expressed about this interest while paying a courtesy call on the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tazul Islam.
The LGRD Minister at the time thanked the Italian government for its interest in investing in Bangadesh in these sectors.
During the meeting, the Minister told the Ambassador that the government of Bangladesh was working on a priority basis to implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'My Village, My City' vision to extend all the facilities of the city to the remote villages. He called on the Italian government to cooperate in this endeavor.
Md Tazul Islam said Bangladesh has become self-sufficient in food today under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Unprecedented development has been achieved in various fields including infrastructure, communication system, power, education and health. The Prime Minister is relentlessly working to transform the country into a developed and prosperous country by 2041, he added.
Emphasizing on the importance of enhancing bilateral and economic relations between the two countries, the Minister hoped that Bangladesh-Italy relations would reach new heights and become stronger in the future.
Paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ambassador Enrico Nunziata said Bangladesh, under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is moving forward at an irresistible pace. He also mentioned Bangladesh as a country with huge potential at the time.
Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary for Local Government Department was also present during the meeting.
