Israque promises to build modern Dhaka

BNP nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls Engineer Ishraque Hossain on Tuesday unveiled his election manifesto promising to turn Dhaka into a ‘world class city’. 

Giving priority to ensure communal harmony, Israque pledged to work for building pollution-and traffic congestion free capital. He also promised to improve healthcare delivery services while unveiling the manifesto at the National Press Club Auditorium in the capital.  

Ishraque in his election manifesto, focused on 144 priority areas for improvement on 13 broad issues where public amenities, social works, waste management, education, urban planning, use of information technology and public safety got priority.

Israque said, “Modern primary health checkup centres will be set up in public parks and gymnasiums. Modernised walkway will be constructed in the parks and open spaces for the betterment of morning and evening walkers.”

All city kitchen markets to have chemical level checking centres to check excess use of chemicals in fruits and vegetables.

Highlighting the urban planning and administrative planning, Israq said, “We will take and implement short-term and long-term plans on different city issues according to its importance. We will also take advice from city planners working in home and abroad to build a planned city.”

He also said, “Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) believes in the democratic system. Our goal in the election is to restore democracy and free BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from Jail. As part of the ongoing movement, the BNP has decided to take part in the city corporation elections.”

He further said that corruption in the city corporation will not be tolerated if he is elected mayor.

“I will take zero tolerance policy against corruption within the DSCC once I get elected,” Ishraque said while talking to media after unveiling manifesto.
