Ishwardi farmers receive free seeds, fertilizer

Seeds of Maskalai pulse and fertilizers were distributed among 300 small and marginal farmers of municipality and 7 unions of Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district. To increase the production of Maskalai pulse, seeds and fertilizers were distributedon Tuesday free at cost under Kharif-2 season in the fiscal year 2021-22 under the agricultural incentive program.

The distribution programme was organized by the Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Extension Department at 11 am on Tuesday in the auditorium of the department's Nursery ChattarBhaban. Discussion meeting was held before distribution of seeds and fertilizers.

Of the 300 small and marginal farmers, 10 are from municipal areas, 20 from Sara and Sahapur unions, 10 from Pakshi, Muladuli, Dashuria and Salimpur unions and 210 from Ladhikunda union. 

Each farmer was given 5 kg of Masakalai seeds, 10 DAP and 5 kg of MOP fertilizer.

Ishwardi Upazila Chairman Nayeb Ali Biswas addressed the discussion as the chief guest and distributed seeds and fertilizers among the farmers. Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar presided over the function. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sheikh Mehedi Islam and Vice Chairman of the Parishad Abdus Salam Khan spoke as special guests. Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Mahmu­dul Alam was present at the discussion.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said the government distributed free seeds and fertilizers among 300 small and marginal farmers in the upazila and seven unions to increase Maskalai production in Ishwardi under the Kharif-2 agriculture incentive program in the fiscal year 2021-22. She said the distribution of fertilizers and seeds would continue in other crops as well. 

In Ishwardi upazila, farmers are cultivating Maskalai in 560 hectares of land this time. She hoped that more Maskalai pulse would be produced in the upazila this time than the target.
