Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain and a section of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) employees continued their sit-in in front of the DSCC headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, today, demanding that he be formally appointed as mayor without further delay.

The protest, which began on May 14, resumed yesterday after a 48-hour pause. All services at Nagar Bhaban remained halted for the past 13 days following the ongoing protest, causing considerable inconvenience to residents across the capital.

All administrative activities at DSCC also remain suspended due to the ongoing protest.

As of this morning, the main gates of the DSCC building remained locked.

Under the banner of "Dhakabashi," Ishraque's supporters staged intermittent processions inside the compound, returning each time to the entrance to continue their sit-in while chanting slogans in his favour.

"We will not leave until the people's mayor, Ishraque Hossain, is handed over charge," said Mashiur Rahman, former secretary and chief coordinator of the demonstration.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Division in a press release issued this morning said it is awaiting a verdict from the Supreme Court as Ishraque filed a fresh writ petition on May 25, seeking an order from the High Court to be sworn in as mayor.
